The Indian T20I side is currently on the Australia Tour for a 5-match T20I series. The New T20I side is considered one of the most dangerous T20I sides in the history of the shortest format. The ability of any team is usually judged by how many ICC titles it has won. The first-ever T20 World Cup was played in 2007, which was hosted by South Africa. So far, A Total of 9 editions of this ICC tournament have been organized. The next T20 World Cup edition will be played in   February 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. 1. India – 2 Times

The Most Successful Team of the ICC T20 World Cup history is India, who have won 2 World Cup editions. Under MS Dhoni's captaincy, India lifted the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007. India defeated Pakistan by 5 runs in the T20 World Cup Finals at Johannesburg. While In 2024, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India lifted their second title. In the Finals, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs. Apart from these two title campaigns, India has also been a finalist of the 2014 edition, and a semi-finalist of the 2016 & 2022 editions.

2. West Indies – 2 Times

You'll be surprised to know that the West Indies was the first team to win the T20 World Cup title twice. West Indies claimed their first title in 2012. In the Finals, West Indies beat hosts Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the finals. Their second title triumph came in 2016, when they beat England by 4 wickets in the finals. Apart from these two title triumphs, the West Indies also reached the semi-finals of the 2009 & 2014 editions. West Indies claimed both these titles under Daren Sammy's captaincy. 

3. England – 2 Times

Apart from India and the West Indies, England is another team who have won two ICC T20 World Cup editions. Under the captaincy of Paul Collingwood, England won their first-ever T20 World Cup in 2010. In the finals of the tournament, they defeated Australia by 7 wickets.

While under Jos Buttler's leadership, England won the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They will beat Pakistan by 5 wickets. 

Apart from these three teams, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & Australia have also won the T20 World Cup once. Pakistan lifted the title in 2009, under Younus Khan's leadership. They defeated Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in the tournament's Finals. Apart from the 2009 title triumph, Pakistan also reached the 2007 & 2022 T20 World Cup finals. While they also reached the semi-finals of the 2010, 2012 & 2021 editions. 

Sri Lanka, which lifted the 2014 T20 World Cup title, under Dinesh Chandimal's captaincy. They defeated India in the tournament's finals. Interestingly, Dinesh Chandimal has been dropping himself from the tournament's semi-finals and finals. Apart from this title campaign, Sri Lanka reached the finals of the 2009 & 2012 editions, where they lost against Pakistan and the West Indies. While the Sri Lankans also reached the semi-finals of the 2010 T20 World Cup. 

Interestingly, the most successful team in the ODI World Cup history has won only one edition of the ICC T20 World Cup so far. Australia clinched the 2021 T20 World Cup under the guidance of Aaron Finch. They defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets. Australia also reached the finals of the 2010 T20 World Cup Finals, where they lost against England. They also reached the semi-finals of the 2007 & 2012 editions.

The next edition of the T20 World Cup will be organised in February-March 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. A Total of 20 Teams will participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup edition. All 20 teams, which will participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 edition, have been confirmed. In addition to host India and co-host Sri Lanka, the tournament will feature teams from Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, USA, Ireland, Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Namibia, Nepal, Oman, and UAE. 

The tournament format will remain the same as in 2024. The 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8, which will then be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each Super 8 group will play in the semi-finals, with the winners of the two semi-finals competing for the trophy in the tournament's final.

The Cricket fans are waiting for the next T20 World Cup. India will have a great chance to defend their title in home conditions, under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership. Well, so far, no team has won the T20 World Cup titles at Home.
